Wow..... it's has been a while since I wrote my last post. Between my full time job and running schedule its a challenge to find the time to seat in front a computer and write about my week... is just that time seems to pass by so fast.....
I don't really know why I created a blog anyway. It's not just the fact that I dont have much time but also the fact that I don't particular enjoy spending time inf front a computer...this is what I do for eight hours at work so the last thing I want to do on my free time is to to just that.
Well, the last time I wrote a post I was into our third week of our fall training for the next two major marathons; Chicago and Marine Corps. That was my original plan. See, last year I run Boston Marathon in April and Chicago in October with a couple of half marathon in between which means that I trained an entire year with no rest. I guess it was a little bit too much for my poor body. Just before Chicago marathon I was already fighting an injury on my left side hip. Well, actually I got injured during Boston but did not pay attention to it as not to miss running Chicago which is another story altogether. After finishing Chicago I could barely walk. That's when I realized that I needed time off to get treatment and get better for yet another calendar year of training. Got myself a good physical therapy clinic and went for a 4 months of intensive therapy combined with chiropractic.
When I went for my first appointment back in January the very first thing I told the doc was "do whatever you have to do but put me back in the path by April". It was kind of funny because doc replied back "oh God! another crazy runner". Fortunately the clinic I chose was recommended to me by other fellow runners and docs there were all too familiar with runners demands to get back running. I knew I would have to be off the paths for a few months and it was hard not to be able to run for almost 4 entire months not even on a treadmil.
I fully recovered just in time of my fall marathon training.
So, that brings me to this season training. Our training started on June 14th consisting of 18 weeks of training for Chicago Marathon plus an extra 2 weeks maintenance until the Marine Corps on October 26th.
I meet my running group every Saturday at the Elmhurst path at 6am for our long runs. During the week I run with a friend at 5:30am. Our weekly run consists of running an easy 6-7 miles on Mondays, speed workout on Tuesdays, 5 miles recovering on Wednesday, 5 mile tempo on Fridays, resting on Thursday and Cross training on Sundays.
As far as cross training I go to the gym and hit the cardio machines a couple of days a week plus weight lifting, and kick box.
I am now into my 16th week of training and into our "tapping down" until race day on October 12th. We have had our second 20+miles. Thanks God! by this time we are all a little bit tired of running so much and ready for the tapper time which means time to rest, recuperate, relax, re-energize and switch gears in our head from “training mode” to “race mode.” This is the time to bring our mileage down..
This year will be the first time that I will run the Chicago Marathon without trying for a PR. I am planning on running Chicago as training instead of racing it. I just want to run it and really try to avoid getting injured in the meantime. My big race is really the Marine Corps 2 weeks later. That's the one I will try for a PR.
