Forced to run in a indoor track

As I mentioned on previous posts due to severe low temperatures in this crazy winter in Chicago I was running midweek training on a indoor track at a local gym and planning on starting doing long runs at the Morton Arboretum, not only for the hills but also because the paths are kept clear of snow an ice. Well, I was just hoping that the weather would improve a little specially on Saturdays which is the day of long runs on my training schedule. Running on a track is not so bad when you are in the beginning of a training schedule with low mileage; somewhere between 6 to 8 miles on weekdays.

This past week I was really hoping and actually planned to run my first long mileage (12) at the arboretum however that was not meant to be. Two weeks ago a came down with a bad cold. After taking an entire bottle of an over the counter medication with no results I decided to pay a visit to my doctor.

Doc said that my lungs are clear but I got some kind of virus which turned into bronchites. Doc prescribed an antibiotic and advised me to stay out of oudoor activities (running) for a while or rsking turning brochitis into pneumoria. Well, that just did it. Next day, I met my running buddy Marc at the tracks and told him the news- not good he said.

Yes, not good at all but I am determined to continue to follow my training schedule and face more long mileage on an indoor track. There is no other choice for me here; at leaset not for now. So, instead of running 12 miles on my own on Saturday Morning as planned, I met Marc at the gym and we did 6 miles together and I did anohter 6 on my own. Saturday Morning I returned to the gym and logged in another 6 miles to complete my weekly mileage. That Friday night I did 136 laps. Ouch!! that sucked!!

I don't know If I will be able to run outdoors this weekend. My schedule calls for a 14 miles on Saturday. It will depend on how I few; if not ready yet I will have to endure a 14 miles run going around and around......around...

I willl keep you all posted. Wish me luck.
